Two sections are offered: Grades 6–8 and Grades 9–12.
Content and discussion depth are tailored appropriately for each group.
Vocabulary Development: Building Word Power Through Great Literature
One section: Grades 6-8
At Cogito Learning Center, our course offerings are designed to bridge gaps in essential content and skills, to go beyond what is typically offered in traditional classrooms. Whether focusing on diving deeper subject matter knowledge or skills, each program is tailored to provide the structured, in-depth learning young minds need to thrive academically and beyond.
These group classes have a maximum of six students per course who meet in a Zoom classroom on designated days and times. Classic Novel Studies
In this engaging four-week online course, students will dive into a carefully selected novel that enhances vocabulary, reading stamina, and cultural understanding. Through thought-provoking written assignments, Socratic-style online discussions, and weekly reflections, students will sharpen their comprehension and critical thinking abilities.
Tailored to reading and age/grade levels, this course guides students through key themes, character development, and essential literary elements while fostering collaborative learning in a dynamic virtual classroom. Perfect for students looking to deepen their literary skills and broaden their cultural horizons, this course will empower them to become more confident, analytical readers.

Vocabulary Development
Words have the power to tell stories, inspire action, and shape ideas. In this engaging vocabulary development course, students will explore vivid, challenging words drawn from classic literature including The Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, The Call of the Wild, and Julius Caesar. Weekly reading guides, creative worksheets, and lively discussions will help students strengthen reading comprehension, expand their vocabulary, and sharpen their speaking and writing skills. Focused writing assignments and interactive activities keep learning dynamic and meaningful. Our vocabulary development course is designed to build confident readers, articulate speakers, and thoughtful communicators — preparing students not just for school success, but for a lifetime of learning and leadership.
Words Matter
Better understand the power of words!
In this engaging course for students in middle school and above, we will use a mixture of direct instruction and the Socratic method, to explore the origins, meanings, and modern uses (and misuses) of words we hear every day—like 'fair,' 'rights,' 'empathy,' and ‘democracy.’
This course will prepare students to be skeptical, thoughtful consumers of mass media, as well as more precise and thoughtful in their writing and conversations about difficult topics!
Separate class times for middle and high school students.
Logic & Debate

The Art of Argument Course is a six-week course designed to help high school students (grades 9-12) master the principles of sound reasoning, this course explores the foundations of logical argumentation, teaching skills such as identifying logical fallacies, constructing persuasive arguments, and evaluating claims with precision. Ideal for students who want to enhance their problem-solving abilities and sharpen their communication skills, this course empowers learners to think critically, reason effectively, and engage in meaningful debates. Perfect for students seeking to excel in academic discussions, essays, and real-world decision-making.
The Fallacy Detective Course is a six-week course designed to help middle school students (grades 6-8) learn about the most common logical fallacies they’ll come across in their daily lives, on social media, in advertisements, and even in arguments amongst peers! Ideal for students who want to improve their ability to differentiate fact from fiction, narrative from news, argument from opinion!
